5/5/11 Update

E-mail Print PDF
Hey everyone, happy Cinco de Mayo!

Here's a quick rundown of everything that's been going on lately:

Performances: Check out the Performance section - Just posted a couple of dates for 5/9/11 & 5/13/11. Both are at fun wine bars in the Chicago suburbs. The 5/13 at Distinctive Cork will also feature duo pieces w/flautist Marie Bennett!

I have been very active performance-wise, but mostly in a private capacity (weddings, cocktail hours, corporate events, etc). All public dates will continue to be posted on the "Performance" section of jimperona.com

Facebook Music Page: Scroll down to the lower left and "Like" my facebook music page. Some cool guitar content & discussion there updated regularly!

Flute/Guitar duo: I am continuing to work with flautist Marie Bennett on a variety of flute/guitar repertoire. We will continue to rehearse throughout the summer with the intention of getting out there & performing in the fall. Stay tuned!

Flamenco project: I am also continuing to rehearse with flamenco dancer Diane Campbell. This is my first time rehearsing with a dancer (and my first venture into flamenco guitar as well), so it's going to take some time. It's hard to learn this music on an "academic" level and what it really comes down to is a whole lot of listening.

Trio: My trio is working on a few transcriptions & originals. Like the other projects, will most likely be in rehearsals throughout the summer.

WAK videos: This website continues to be updated with new WAK instructional videos every week. The past 2 vids have been quite the endeavor. #74 is 45 minutes of me playing one riff repeatedly in order to stress the importance of repetition. #75 is "How to Play 75 Metallica Riffs". Excessive, right? I love it!

That's about it for now. Check out that Facebook Music Page for more regular updates, and as always, practice that geetar!

February 14th Update

Hey everyone,

Just posted 3 new performance dates which provide info on my guest appearance with the Naperville Chamber Players!  The music is by composer Alan Hovhaness, who would've turned 100 this year.  Info can be found in the Performance section.

Soon, I'll be posting 3 new dates at the Distinctive Cork in Naperville.  Speaking of which, my flute/guitar duo with flautist Marie Bennett performed there for the 1st time this past Saturday (Feb 12) and it went well!  The performance was impromptu, but we are very excited about building a great repertoire and playing it everywhere we can.

I had my first rehearsal with a flamenco dancer this past Friday (Feb 11) and I'm very excited about getting into the flamenco world.  It'll likely be months before any public performances w/this project, as there is a lot of work to be done, but I'll sure to keep you posted!

Tomorrow (Feb 15) will be the first rehearsal with my trio, consisting of myself and 2 percussionists.  This is another project in which a long feeling-out process will be necessary, but I can't wait to see/hear the results.  For a rough idea of what can be expected, check out the "Burn Cycle" and "Midnight Express" videos on the Media section here on www.jimperona.com.

It's practice time.  Thanks for reading.  More soon!!
